One thing to help you deal with stagnation

It's our 3rd entry of our personal stories series and without further delay, here's Aila with a tip on how to stay sane during these crazy times: (Read Entry 1 and Entry 2 first)

2021 was a year of change -- in our personal lives, career, social life, and more. 

The restrictions have eased and we’re now able to visit and see our families and friends again. This has lifted the spirits for some of us—but not everyone is in positive spirits.

Some are still languishing.

Languishing is a productivity killer (IYKYK! 😩) and a lot of us have experienced this for the past two years. Languishing is a sense of stagnation and emptiness. It feels as if you’re muddling through your days, looking at your life through a foggy windshield. 

It occurs when your work stops progressing and it's hard for you to get going again. Most of us spend much of our time at work. But many people are still struggling to get the most out of their days. Can you relate?

One thing that can help you cope with the feeling of languishing is to have a hobby that you truly enjoy. 

These hobbies can help you keep sane when you’re overwhelmed by daily tasks.

Hobbies provide a slice of work-free and responsibility-free time in your schedule.

This is especially helpful for people who need to recharge their batteries by doing something they enjoy. 

Here are some of the hobbies that help keep me sane:

1. Reading a book
2. Watching movies/TV shows on Netflix
3. Taking a brief 15-minute walk
4. Exercise
5. Playing with pets
6. Trying a new recipe
7. Gardening
8. Journal Writing
9. Learning to play an instrument
10. Catching up with friends/family

These hobbies bring a sense of fun and freedom to my life and have helped minimize the impact of chronic stress. 

Experiment with a variety of different hobbies and discover what you love–or rekindle an old one.

Take a singing class, learn a new language, or create a scrapbook.

The more you explore, the more likely you are to find one that keeps you engaged and sane.
